The box taught in this class is a more modern looking alternative to the standard quarter leather box with a round spine, having the leather covering a flat spine and disappearing between the shell and cover board. This was the Eberhardts' favorite box style, and while I don't know if they invented it, I've never seen it referenced in the English language literature. If it has been documented I'd appreciate being informed.

Students will each construct a box in this style with leather spine, cloth covered shells and outer boards, and suede linings. Depending on time, we may or may not be able to title the boxes. Again, depending on time, students may be able to construct a box with a rounded leather spine.

Requirements: Students should have some boxmaking experience. Please bring your own hand tools, leather if you have it, and a quarto or octavo book to be housed. No folios, please...
The school can provide leather if requested for a small cost.

Date: The class will be offered the weekend of September 20 - 21.  If you are staying at the school please come late Friday afternoon to get settled in.

Materials Fee: $15.00
